Evangelist Lloyd Penberthy

The Pastor's Friend

Let me introduce myself. The Lord graciously saved me in 1976 while a sophomore in high school. In 1981, He used a vespers program about the life of Bob Jones Sr. to call me to preach. I was married to Georlene Hagan in 1984. The two of us served the Lord through various ministries including pastoring until the Lord took her home in March of 2012.

In July of 2013, the Lord gave me a new wife (Sylvia Johnston). Sylvia was raised in a Christian home, accepted the Lord at six years old, and had never previously married. I have a degree in Christian education. Sylvia has a degree in music education.

My experience is extensive and my resume is large. I have preached over 3,500 times with hundreds receiving Christ and hundreds more making decisions of rededication. I have over 25 years of experience helping youth groups double and triple in attendance.

How to get to Heaven
Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.
Genesis 1:27 tells us that God created us in His image. Being in His image means that we are given choices. As God makes decisions, He created us with the ability to make decisions.
Imagine having an existence where you were the only one that made any decisions. It would be like owning a collection of dolls, and never having any communication. Even if you could program those dolls to talk, it wouldn’t be like talking to someone that could talk by their own choice. Even if you could program the dolls to love you, it would not be like having someone love you because they make that choice. God gave Adam and Eve (our earthly ancestors) the ability to choose. They chose sin. At that point sin entered into the world (Romans 5:12). We all inherited a sin nature because of our relationship to Adam and Eve.
All have sinned. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death”. God will not allow anything that defiles to enter into heaven (Revelation 21:27). If He did, heaven would be no better than earth. It would be full of sin. Hate, murder, adultery, lies, perversions of all sorts would fill heaven. Praise the Lord that He will not allow that to enter heaven!
He has prepared a place for the devil and his angels called hell (Revelation 20:10).
He is not willing that any person should perish (suffer in hell for all eternity), but that all should come to repentance (II Peter 3:9).
Romans 6:23 finishes with the statement, “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Jesus Christ is God’s Son. He came to earth to live a sinless life, and then give His life on the cross to appease the wrath (principled anger) of God upon sin.
So, how do you get to heaven?
First: Admit that you are a sinner. Not just that you have done wrong, but that you have a sin nature, and are drawn to sin.
Second: Admit that you cannot save yourself. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10,13; John 1:12)
Third: Acknowledge that Jesus Christ (God in flesh) died for you, and was victorious over sin by rising again from the dead.
Fourth: Accept Him as your personal Savior. Call upon the Lord right now!

Please consider scheduling us for:

Evangelistic Services
I emphasize three parts to preaching: explanation, illustration, and application of the Word of God (Eze. 3:11).

Special Music
My wife and I can provide traditional, God-honoring, special music at your request.

Youth Rallies
The Lord has given me a heart for youth. We have seen many youth come to Christ and be stirred to serve Him. We have a seemingly endless resource of skits and games as well.

As a pastor for over 30 years, I know the trial, heartaches, and challenges of ministry. I also know the joys, victories and mountain tops that a pastor will experience. Many times I looked forward to “revival services” with great hope and expectation for months in advance. I thought, "If only our congregation can hear a certain evangelist, they will have revival". There were a few times when meetings concluded that I felt the Lord truly revived us again. However, there were several times when the meetings ended, I thought that it was just a burden on our church and my family. I prayed and prepared yet there seemed to be very little evidence that the meetings were effective. After careful and prayerful evaluation, I came to several conclusions:
· We cannot schedule revival
· People are more stiff-necked
· Preaching has changed
  • We understand completely that revival is something God brings and not something that we schedule. We only schedule meetings.
  • We are well aware of the fact that our generation is more wicked than the previous (II Timothy 3:13).
  • However, we must be honest as preachers and admit that preaching isn’t the same. Even evangelists have changed. I remember evangelistic meetings when people repented to the Lord and each other. I remember services when entire families reconciled with each other or people came to the pastor to apologize (in tears). I remember messages that dealt with our relationships with: God, family, church, pastor, friends, and the lost. I remember my disappointment as a pastor when the evangelist was so deep that Bible College professors would have to study to understand and the attendance went down every night.
Pastor, I will work hard, pray hard, preach hard, and depend upon the Lord for the results (I Corinthians 3:6-7).

“Evangelist Lloyd Penberthy has ‘Depth’! His Bible knowledge is strong.  His people skills are great!  He genuinely loves people. His preaching is motivational, interesting, passionate and powerful! Yet, he is a unique help to churches due to a series of difficult life experiences and trials that God used to deepen and develop him into a great man of God.  I strongly recommend you schedule him for meetings. He will without a doubt hugely impact the people in your church.”          - - - Evangelist Mike Pelletier

"Evangelist Lloyd Penberthy's fervor for preaching is very evident."          - - - Chuck Gross

"It was our privilege to have Evangelist Penberthy and his wife Sylvia in our church on November 12-15, 2023.  We were greatly blessed by their ministry.  The preaching was timely, biblical, and profitable.  There were several decisions on the part of Christians during the meetings.  We were also blessed by Sylvia's ministry of music; she is a great partner-in-ministry for her husband.  I highly recommend them to your church!"          - - - Pastor Gary Myers
The Scriptures
I believe that the holy Bible, as originally written, was verbally inspired and the product of spirit-controlled men and therefore is truth without error. I preach from the KJV. II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:19-21
The True God
I believe there is only one true and living God: an infinite, intelligent spirit, the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth, that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. Exodus 20:2-3, I John 5:7
The Holy Spirit
A. The Person
I believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same divine nature. He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. John 16:7-11
B. Spiritual Gifts
I believe that some gifts of the Holy Spirit are permanent and still used throughout the entire church age. These gifts include: pastor / teacher, ministering, teaching, exhorting, giving, ruling, and showing mercy. Romans 12:7-8, Ephesians 4:11
We further believe that other gifts were temporary and were given in the apostolic period for the foundation of the church. Having fulfilled their purpose, these gifts are no longer necessary and therefore are not distributed by the Holy Spirit today. These gifts include apostleship, prophecy, working of miracles, healings, tongues, interpretation of tongues, and etc. I Corinthians 12:4-11, 28-30
The Devil or Satan
I believe in the personality of Satan, that he is the god of this age and the author of all the powers of darkness; and that he is destined to eternal condemnation in the lake of fire which is his just reward. Matthew 4:1-3; Mark 1:13
Creation
I accept the Genesis account of creation and believe that mankind came by the direct creation of God, thereby rejecting both secular and theistic evolution. Genesis chapters 1 and 2, John 1:3
The Fall of Man
I believe that man was created in innocence under the law of his Maker but by voluntary transgression fell from his sinless and happy state. As a result, all men have become sinners, not only by constraint, but by choice and therefore are under just condemnation without defense or excuse. Romans 5:12
The Virgin Birth
I believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Ghost in a miraculous manner; born of Mary (a virgin) as no other man ever was born or can be born, and that He is both the Son of God and God the Son. Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:18-25
The Atonement for Sin
I believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly by grace through the mediating offices of the Son of God, who by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon him a human nature, yet without sin; honored the divine law by his personal obedience, and by his death made a full and vicarious atonement for our sins. Matthew 18:11, John 3:16
Grace in the New Creation
I believe that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again. The new birth is a new creation in Jesus Christ and is instantaneous, not a process. In the new birth, the ones dead in trespasses and sins are made partakers of the divine nature and receive eternal life, the free gift of God. John 1:12-13, Romans 6:1-4
Justification
I believe that the great gospel blessing which is secured by Jesus Christ, for all who believe in him, is justification. Justification includes the pardon of sin and the gift of eternal life because of His righteousness with no consideration of any works of righteousness which we have done. It is solely by grace on the basis of our Redeemer’s blood, thereby His righteousness is imputed unto us. Isaiah 53:11, Habakkuk 2:4, Acts 13:39
Faith and Salvation
I believe that faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only condition of salvation. We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace, through Christ’s death upon the cross. Jesus, being a sinless man, took our place and made a full atonement for our sins. He rose from the dead and ascended to the Father, and is now a suitable, compassionate, and all-sufficient Savior. We believe that salvation is free to all through the gospel. Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8-9
The Security of the Saints
I believe that all who are truly born again are kept eternally by God the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ. John 6:37-40, Romans 8:35-39
Separation
A. Personal
I believe that all believers should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord and separation from all religious apostasy, worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, and associations is commanded by God. John 2:15-17; Romans 12:1-2
B. Local Church
I believe that any ecumenical movement or mass evangelistic efforts that attempt to unite believers with non-believers is not of God. Therefore we must separate ourselves from such movements and not participate in such efforts. II Corinthians 6:14 - 7:1
The Righteous and the Wicked
I believe that there is a radical and essential difference between the righteous and the wicked. Only those who have been justified by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and sanctified by the Spirit of our God are truly righteous in His esteem; while all that continue in impenitence and unbelief are in His sight wicked and under the curse. This distinction holds among men both during and after death in the everlasting felicity of the saved and the everlasting conscious suffering of the lost. Malachi 3:18, Matthew 7:13-14
The Resurrection, Personal, Visible, Premillennial Return of Christ, and Related Events
I believe in:
A. The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. Matthew 18:6-7
B. The ascension of Christ. Mark 16:19
C. The high priesthood of Christ. I Timothy 2:5
D. The rapture of the church. This event is the bodily, personal return of Jesus Christ for His church. His return is imminent, pre-tribulational, and premillennial. I Thessalonians 4:13-18
E. The second coming (advent) of Jesus Christ. The second advent is when Jesus Christ will literally return to this earth at the close of the great tribulation. He will come “in power and great glory” to rule and reign for one thousand years, this thousand year reign we refer to as “the millennium or millennial kingdom”. Isaiah 11:4-5
F. The bodily resurrection of the righteous dead. I Corinthians 15:42-44
G. The change of the living in Christ. Philippians 3:20-21
H. The continuation of the throne of David with Christ as King. Isaiah 9:6-7
I. The millennial reign of Jesus Christ. Revelation 20:1-4, 6
